Family Law

Many people hear the words “family lawyer” and think almost exclusively that means “divorce lawyer.” Yes, our office does handle divorces as part of our family law practice, but family law doesn’t only mean “we do divorce.” A true Family Law Practice handles a lot of other matters, some of which can be litigious, and others that are not. We have more than forty (40) years of combined experience in family law, which allows us to handle pretty much anything clients can bring to us. In some cases, clients desire a collaborative approach. Other cases require a more aggressive approach. We’re very experienced at both, and can tell very quickly from a review of your case, which strategy is likely to be necessary. Those matters include the following

Trust Our Expertise

During our practice in family law, we have found that in many cases, hiring the right expert can make a difference in positive and negative outcomes for clients. Whether that means hiring a psychological expert, substance abuse expert, custody evaluator, change of schools expert, or knowing how to present issues to a Court Appointed Guardian and or Parenting Time Coordinator can be critical to custody and parenting time experts. Knowing the right financial experts and appraisers to help properly evaluate the property, businesses or other marital assets can be strategically critical to ensure the best outcome for a client. Our family law attorneys have the experience and connections necessary to ensure you the best possible outcome.

Same-Sex Family Law

Lastly, with the U.S. Supreme Court finally allowing for same sex couples to marry and start families, inevitably, the statistics suggest that some of those marriages may end in divorce, or there may be custody battles over adopted children. The Court’s ruling in Obergefell v. Hodges not only allowed for those same sex couples to marry, but, ostensibly, provides them the same access to the Courts for purposes of divorcing or fighting for custody. We’ve seen these cases many times, and we are happy and honored to represent parties in same sex divorce matters anywhere in Michigan.
